If you’re planning ahead for the allotment, the first few months of the year are all about getting a head start 🌱
January:
Not much goes directly outside yet, but it’s a good time to sow onions, leeks and celery indoors or in a heated propagator. You can also chit early potatoes and make plans for the year.
February:
Things start moving. Sow broad beans outside (weather permitting), and start tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, lettuce and brassicas indoors. You can also sow onions and shallots if you didn’t in January.
March:
This is when it really kicks off. Direct sow carrots, parsnips, beetroot, spinach and peas, and plant onion sets and early potatoes. More salads and herbs can go under cover too.
Always depends on your location and the weather, but it’s a great time to get going!
